About
Bridge & Fern is a technology practice. Consulting, research, and the work that sits beneath the tools everyone else is building.
We study how technology concentrates and distributes power, and we design systems that work against that concentration. When it makes sense, we build them too.
Every engagement starts with understanding the actual system before discussing solutions.
Twenty years of paying close attention to what technology actually does when you deploy it. IT, infrastructure, web, ecommerce, open source, security, privacy. Self-directed and cross-domain, from the bottom of the stack to the surface where people actually touch it. Currently studying electrical engineering and mechatronics, extending the same questions into embodied systems and the physical layer.
An outsider’s perspective is the point. We see the incentive structures, second-order effects, and architectural assumptions that go unquestioned from inside your organization.
What we believe
Technology infrastructure should support collective thriving. That belief shapes everything we work on.
Sovereignty as a design principle, not an afterthought. Job creation in the communities that extractive models leave behind.
Knowing what not to build matters as much as knowing how. Wisdom and taste alongside technical depth.
What works for a single system should work for a network of them. We don’t build one-offs.
Work with us
We work directly with you. No team, no account manager. Every engagement starts with understanding the actual system before discussing technology.
If what you’re working on touches technology at any level, from getting the basics right to rethinking how the pieces fit together, we’d like to hear about it. Doesn’t have to be about a project.
